Ofcourse they can go far. CL is a knock-out tournament after the group stages and it has a lot to do with luck. Valencia has got a strong team this year.

I can't see them ever playing in that formation but they have a very solid squad with options all over. If Joaquin can pull his finger out then they have two of the best wingers around (when on form).

Their depth is impressive. If Vicente or Joaquín are injured, tehy have Regueiro and Gavilán. Plus Silva, Tavano, Morientes...

I've always liked Valencia but I think their spotlight in Europe has already come and gone. I saw them in the Atletico game, and although they played to get the result they wanted, their was alot left to be desired.

The bottom line is what made them famous in the past was a host of really underated coaches whom brought what was originally a very humble club in their own respective league, to a new dimension of European competitiveness seeing them compete in not one but two Champions League finals.

With that said there has never been one particular player who ever really stood out for Valencia, just a solid bunch of players who played really well off one another. If this new generation can mimic that brand of football in the near future than I'm positive they will be concrete contenders.

Valencia were never "very humble". I think they're the 5th team in terms of titles in Spain.

That's what I like of their current roster. The subs, specially in the forward and AM positions, seem just a notch below the theoretical level of the starters.

Another think that they've done well is keeping the same style of play through four different coaches. The 4-2-3-1 and the nickname of "the most Italian of the Spanish teams" (this may or may not be exactly true, but the point is that they've been consistently playing a certain way).

In the European scheme of things, at least in the last 30 years, I consider them humble.

In the last 30 years, they have been to 2 cl finals, won one uefa cup, won one cup winners cup, been regularly to the quarter finals and semi finals of european tournaments, so they have been more succesful than Arsenal, Man U, Chelsea, all German teams other than BM, all french sides except Marseille, all Spanish sides other than the big two and all Italian sides other than the big 3, how is that hummble?

BTW, I don't see this Valencia team getting very far, because they have to become a team before the individuals will be able to shine, but in the next couple of seasons they should have one really good season (as long as they don't run out of money again and end up selling all their good players)

I don't get it? Why highlight manu? you think i like the fact that Valencia have reached more finals than us in the last 30 years? 1980, 2000, 2001, 2004, winning 2 trophies and 2 supercups. MU has been to finals in 1991 and 1999, winning both. Valencia have a better record than us in the last 30 years, that is an unfortunate fact.

Nahhhhhh they dont, cause they haven't won the Champions League, and United has. United have a medal, they don't. Simple as that.

indeed Valencia have two of the best outside midfielders in the world!

Vicente and Joaquin, should be a nightmare for any team! Today morientes scored a hat trick, and Villa missed 4 opportunities.

Their defense is of the best in the world.

Albiol is going to be the best CDM in Spain, not taking anytinhg from, Oubinia, and Duscher.

Then those extra players, like, Edu, Tavano, Gavilan, Silva, Angulo, Baraja, Hugo Viana, Albelda, Regueiro, make their attack even more awesome.

They look good, this year, but will see...!

The defence was very shaky tonight, they will not find sides so generous as Olypiacos were to night in the cl on many nights. i would like to see how their creaky defence deals with decent quality, against this defence they let in two and could have been more. The attack looked ok, when it was stung into life, but again i have to add that Greek club sides are very poor these days.

I couldnt say, if they look weak! But when Greece won the Eurocup, they also look indeed very weak.

I do Agree that Albiol Mest up in some defensive break downs, but his first shot in the match was a goal.

Joaquin did not start eather, so that could also make a difference!

Roma will be a good side to test!

Roma will be a much better test of Valencia, both home and away. But then again, Shaktar Donnetsk were, in the bits i saw of the Roma game, doing as much as Roma were, up till the 70s were on the clock, then the floodgates opened.

Spanish teams traditionally always have a difficult time playing in Greece. I take this as a very good result for Valencia.

Any game where you are playing in front of a noisy , hostile crowd, and are tested yet go on to score 4 goals in a great result, for anyone. My point was that v8 was declaring Valencias defence the greatest in the world. i thought that we should perhaps wait another game or two before just handing Valencia the European cup in september.

They were poor. That's to be expected though, as Ayala was the Valencia defense and he is currently winding down his career. They have good lateral defenders if Del Horno performs to his previous La Liga standard but a soft middle. Without the central midfield of Baraja/Albelda when on form, which hasn't been for a few years now, they also look weak in central midfield. I would much rather have Roma's defense over that of Valencia. I'd also want Roma's midfield and attack.

Thanks to the farce that is Italian football, Roma's season has just started. There's little wonder they looked lacking in fitness/sharpness. When they got things going they were superb.

Albiol is better than Albelda and Baraja, and I think he is only 20! And alreadu scored his first goal in Champions league, in his fisrt European attendance!
    Not bad!

I think Valencia is definitely a team on the rise. They have made a lot of good signings and have built a young, fast, exciting squad. I think it is just a matter of time before Tavano takes Morientes's place in the squad; I really think Tavano wil flourish in the SPL.

The only thing they really lack is CL experience in the mid-field and frontline. Therefore I still don't think they are a match for Roma but should finish easily in second place in their CL group. Then in the knockout stages anything is possible, will depend on who they are matched-up with.

They have amazing players and a great coach.
I think they will be succesful
But don't sanctify Morientes too soon.
Two of the goals against Olympiakos, I could have scored.
Other people did all the work.
    The last header is alright.
